Independence: Getting Help

Who you can ask

The Learning Centre

The Centre can help you learn, or re-learn, the academic skills vital for success at uni.

Peer Mentoring

Some schools and faculties are beginning to offer assistance through 'Peer Mentoring' schemes, where students help their less experienced colleagues with their studies.

The UNSW Counselling Service offers peer mentoring programmes especially for students in transition.

Other UNSW Support Services

Be sure to aquaint yourself with the support services on campus that can help you.

Other students

Share your concerns; other students can be a great source of information and support.

Teaching Staff

While staff members have lots of qualifications and experience and tend to be experts in their fields, they are not mind readers!!

If you need help with your studies, ask! Your lecturers and tutors have set consultation hours every week to assist their students. If you can't attend then, make an appointment.

Student Comments

"One of the most effective things I found was consultation hours, and help available outside lectures and tutorial times."

"I think the most important thing is that help is there when you need it."
