Faculty-based Courses on Thesis Writing and Research Management
Our academic skills workshops focus on, or explore, different tasks. Many are designed for postgraduate students:
The Learning Centre offers workshop programmes throughout semesters 1 and 2. Workshops vary from Semester to Semester with new classes being added and others deleted. Check the Workshop timetable for details.
Advanced Academic Writing for PG Research students from non-English speaking backgrounds.
An event held each year, The Learning Centre invites UNSW postgraduate coursework students to attend a morning of workshops to support them in their academic coursework.
Any group of five or more research students who would like a specific workshop or thesis writing program can contact the Director of the Learning Centre to discuss this. Please email Sue Starfield (s.starfield@unsw.edu.au) with a request.

For students who are writing their thesis. Students meet in small groups to edit and review each others work over 10 weeks. Contact Linda Burnett (l.burnett@unsw.edu.au).

Credit bearing courses
All commencing PHD and Masters by Research UNSW Engineering students will automatically be enrolled in GSOE9400- ‘Engineering Postgraduate Research Essentials’ . This course is managed and coordinated by the Graduate School of Engineering . Thesis Writing in Engineering
This is a series of four workshops on structuring and editing the thesis. It is offered in Semester 2 each year. Students enroll via the Graduate School of Engineering. Contact Lynne O'Sullivan (l.osullivan@unsw.edu.au) for further information.
The Learning Centre offers workshops, which run over four weeks in two-hourly sessions, commencing Wednesday 2nd May. The workshops provide an overview of the thesis writing process and address the most common challenges associated with writing academically. In addition to this advice, the workshops create an informal forum for students to discuss their thesis writing experience. Email learningcentre@unsw.edu.au for details.
