After successfully negotiating the UNSW University Preparation Programme (UPP) in 1992, Ian completed his BA in English (Honours class I) in 1996. He was also the recipient of the University Medal. He went on to postgraduate study and recently received his PhD in English for a thesis that investigated the cultural economy of everyday reading practices.
As a postgraduate student, Ian first worked for the Centre as a Writing Assistant in 1997. Since then he has worked on the Centre's Academic Preparation Programme, and the University Orientation and Study Skills subject (a component of the UPP) since 1998. He has also facilitated numerous academic skills workshops.
Outside The Learning Centre, Ian has taught within the School of English (UNSW) in areas such as postmodernism, cultural theory, cultural politics and censorship. Now that the doctorate is over he is looking forward to getting his life back.
